The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with a violent clash that claimed two lives in Dass Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which occurred on September 4, 2026, involved youths from Bayan Fada and Bundot communities and reportedly began with an attack on a 29-year-old tricycle rider, Abdulrahman Nuru, at Tudun Wus area of Dass.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that Ibrahim El-Safwan, popularly known as Jabala’i, allegedly conspired with others and intercepted Nuru before attacking him with cutlasses.
The victim, who sustained multiple injuries, was rushed to General Hospital, Dass, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
The incident subsequently triggered tension in the area, with youths from Bundot allegedly mobilising in large numbers and moving towards Bayan Fada in what the police described as a reprisal attack.
The ensuing confrontation reportedly occurred at an open space near the Dass Central Motor Park, where another resident of Bayan Fada, 38-year-old Mukhtar Jibrin, was allegedly stabbed.
Jibrin was initially taken to General Hospital, Dass, before being referred to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was also confirmed dead.
The police said its personnel, supported by detectives, responded promptly to the escalating violence, intervened to contain the situation and restored normalcy in the affected communities.
Seven suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the incidents.
They were identified as Umar Abubakar, 20, of Bayan Fada; Blus Garba, 19; Adamu Muhammad, 17; Hussaini Danjuma, 17; Hassan Danjuma, 17; Shuaibu Sani, 17; and Aliyu Abdullahi, 18, all of Bundot.
The command described Umar Abubakar as the principal suspect, while the remaining suspects are being investigated for their alleged involvement in the violence.
The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to be at large.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killings and ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
He urged residents of Dass to remain calm and law-abiding, warning them against reprisal attacks and taking the law into their own hands.
The commissioner assured the people that the police would pursue all those found culpable and ensure that justice takes its course.
The command also appealed to community leaders, youths and other stakeholders in the affected areas to cooperate with security agencies and avoid actions capable of further escalating the situation.
