The Bauchi State Police Command has taken custody of a suspect and several exhibits handed over by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) following operations aimed at preventing criminal activities in parts of the state.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU), Bauchi Base, also arrested a 20-year-old man, Umar Saidu, for alleged attempted culpable homicide.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib.
According to the statement, CJTF operatives on patrol intercepted one Aboy Torkila at Bakin Kura area of Bauchi at about 9:00 a.m. on September 4.
The suspect was reportedly found in possession of a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle but could not provide a satisfactory explanation regarding how he acquired the motorcycle, leading to his arrest and subsequent handover to the police.
Items recovered from him included the motorcycle, a sharp knife, a fabricated master key, locally known as “Chori,” two spanners, a lighter and some dry leaves suspected to be cannabis.
The CJTF also handed over other exhibits recovered during its operations across the state, including four cutlasses, five iron rods, four knives, three sharp horns known as “Kaho,” nine suspected criminal charms and 18 lighters.
Other recovered items included some dry leaves suspected to be cannabis, a set of shisha items, four wraps of a substance suspected to be ice, one rubber solution, one Exiplon tube and one Piscof.
Meanwhile, the VCRU arrested Saidu, a resident of Karofin Madaki area of Bauchi, following a report of an alleged attack on a 34-year-old man, Hassan Muhammad, in the same area.
The incident reportedly occurred after a minor disagreement between the two men.
The police said Saidu allegedly rushed into his house, returned with a cutlass and attacked Muhammad, who sustained an injury to his hand while attempting to shield his head from the attack.
Following the report, VCRU operatives promptly mobilised to the scene, took the injured victim to Tashan Babiye Primary Healthcare Centre for treatment and subsequently traced and arrested the suspect.
The command said investigation into the case was ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the CJTF and VCRU personnel for what he described as their prompt and professional response to criminal activities.
He directed that discreet investigations be conducted into the cases and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustained collaboration with security stakeholders to combat crime and safeguard lives and property across Bauchi State.
