The Management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, has announced the temporary closure of its College of Nursing Sciences with effect from Thursday, August 27, 2026, citing ongoing renovation of the students’ hostel and concerns over accommodation, safety and students’ welfare.
The hospital management, in a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations and Protocol Unit, Usman Abdullahi Koli, said the decision became necessary following challenges associated with the hostel renovation and accommodation of students.
According to the statement, the situation had raised concerns regarding the safety, welfare and ability of students to effectively participate in academic activities.
Management acknowledged concerns expressed by students over insecurity, hardship and delays in the completion of the hostel project, stressing that the safety, welfare and dignity of students remain a priority.
Consequently, all academic activities at the College have been suspended, including lectures, clinical postings and examinations, pending further directives.
The management said a revised academic calendar would be released once normal academic activities resume.
It also directed that the College hostel remain closed until the ongoing renovation is completed and the facility is certified safe for occupation.
Students have been advised to maintain contact with their Class Representatives and the Office of the Dean, Student Affairs, for official information concerning the closure, resumption and other directives.
They were also urged to avoid activities or situations that could compromise their safety during the period of the temporary closure.
The hospital management expressed regret over the inconvenience the decision may cause students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders, but maintained that the measure was necessary to ensure that academic activities eventually resume in a safe, secure and conducive environment.
ATBUTH further appealed for the patience, understanding and cooperation of students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders as efforts continue to address the situation.
The management said further information on the resumption date and revised academic calendar would be communicated in due course.
