The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Isiyaku Usman, over the alleged defilement of a seven-year-old girl and theft of two mobile phones in Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, who is a resident of Kari village in Darazo, was arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim’s 37-year-old father on September 6, 2026.
According to the police, the girl was on her way to a neighbouring house at about 8:00 a.m. when the suspect allegedly lured her into a nearby uncompleted building.
The command said the suspect allegedly dispossessed the girl of two Android mobile phones before sexually assaulting her.
The two phones, identified as Techno A31 devices, were subsequently recovered from the suspect at the time of his arrest.
Following the complaint, detectives attached to the Darazo Division swiftly commenced investigation and arrested the suspect.
The police said both the victim and the suspect were taken to the Darazo General Hospital for medical examination, while their statements were obtained as part of the investigation.
The command further stated that the suspect allegedly confessed to the offences and remained in police custody for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged offence and directed that the case be transferred to the Gender Laboratory of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet and thorough investigation.
The police said the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy towards sexual and gender-based violence and urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant regarding the safety and movement of children.
The Commissioner assured members of the public that the command would pursue the case professionally and ensure that justice takes its course.
