The Governing Council of Sa'adu Zungur University (SAZU), has approved the appointment of Malam Ibrahim Abdullahi as the substantive Bursar of the University.
The appointment was ratified at an emergency meeting of the Governing Council held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, following the recommendation of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board after a competitive selection process.
Abdullahi emerged as the most successful candidate in the exercise, having scored the highest marks during the interview conducted for the position.
Before his appointment, he served as the Acting Bursar of the University, a position he assumed on August 28, 2025, after serving as Deputy Bursar and overseeing the Bursary Department. His appointment marks the culmination of over a decade of distinguished service and steady progression within the University's financial administration.
A seasoned accounting professional, Abdullahi holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Accounting from Sa'adu Zungur University, a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Accounting from the National Open University of Nigeria, and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting from the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi. He is also a Certified National Accountant (CNA), a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria (FCAI), and a Certified Procurement Officer.
Since joining the University in 2012, Abdullahi has served in and headed virtually all the major units of the Bursary Department, including Treasury, Final Accounts, Salaries and Wages, Investment, Budget, and Expenditure Control. He rose through the ranks from Higher Executive Officer (Accounts) to Senior Accountant, Principal Accountant, Chief Accountant, Deputy Bursar, Overseer of the Bursary Department, Acting Bursar, and now substantive Bursar.
Throughout his career, he has played key roles in budgeting, financial reporting, treasury management, policy implementation, procurement, and institutional financial planning, earning a reputation for professionalism, diligence, and sound financial management.
The appointment underscores the University's commitment to merit, transparency, and due process in the selection of its principal officers.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fatimah Tahir, congratulated Abdullahi on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Management, staff, and students, describing the appointment as well deserved.
She expressed confidence that his wealth of experience, professional competence, and commitment to excellence would further strengthen the University's financial management system and support its vision of academic excellence, accountability, and sustainable institutional development.
