Bauchi Local Government Council says it has integrated nutrition programmes into its 2026 and 2027 budgets as part of efforts to tackle maternal and child malnutrition.
The Director of Primary Healthcare Development, Sulaiman Abdu Kirfi, disclosed this while representing the council chairman during a nutrition advocacy visit organised by the Civil Society-Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) on Monday.
Kirfi said the Budget and Planning Department worked with relevant departments to ensure nutrition-related activities were captured in the council's annual budgets.
According to him, nutrition is a shared responsibility that requires the commitment of all departments and stakeholders.
He commended the Bauchi State Government for distributing Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) to local governments, saying the intervention had helped reduce cases of severe acute malnutrition.
Earlier, CS-SUNN National Programme Officer, Mr. Kunle Ishola, urged local governments to strengthen investment in nutrition, saying sustained funding and effective implementation of policies were essential to improving the health of mothers and children.
He also called for closer collaboration between government institutions, development partners and community leaders to promote better nutrition practices at the community level.
The advocacy visit ended with the presentation of CS-SUNN souvenirs to the ALGON chairman and a group photograph.
