Pastoral Resolve (PARE), a non-governmental organisation based in Bauchi, has reaffirmed its commitment to training rural farmers in modern agricultural practices and linking them with buyers to improve productivity and earnings.
The organisation said the adoption of innovative farming techniques, combined with improved security and access to affordable farm inputs, would help strengthen Nigeria’s food security.
PARE’s Programme Coordinator, Malam Shu’aibu Aliyu Kobi, stated this in a statement issued on Thursday to mark the 2026 World Food Day.
He said the theme of this year’s celebration, “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow,” underscored the importance of agricultural innovation in improving food production and ensuring a sustainable food supply.
Kobi explained that PARE was working to enlighten farmers on the cultivation of marketable crops, modern farming techniques and the adoption of new agricultural innovations to make them more productive and self-reliant.
He added that connecting farmers with produce off-takers would improve their access to markets, reduce marketing difficulties and enable them to earn better returns from their investments.
The coordinator, however, stressed that insecurity remained a major concern that required urgent attention from governments at all levels.
He called for stronger protection for farming and pastoral communities, recommending the establishment of local vigilante groups in areas prone to insecurity.
Kobi also advocated subsidised farm inputs to enable local farmers to expand cultivation and contribute meaningfully to the country’s food supply.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his agricultural reforms and praised Nigerian farmers for their dedication to feeding the population despite economic and security challenges.
According to him, sustained investment in agricultural innovation, farmer education, security and market access would help promote food sufficiency and create livelihood opportunities for unemployed youths.
