Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi State, and the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening academic collaboration and promoting quality higher education in Africa at a public lecture that brought together academics, students, university staff and community members.
The event highlighted the importance of cooperation between African universities in advancing knowledge, sharing expertise and building sustainable institutional partnerships.
At the climax of the lecture, IUIU presented an Award of Honour and Recognition to SAZU in acknowledgement of the university’s commitment to quality higher education, its institutional transformation under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Fatimah Tahir, and its efforts to sustain collaboration between the two institutions.
Presenting the award on behalf of IUIU, the university’s Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Jamil Serwanga, described SAZU as a valued African partner, noting that the recognition symbolised mutual respect, friendship and a shared commitment to deepening academic cooperation between Nigeria and Uganda.
Dr. Serwanga said the award reflected IUIU’s confidence in SAZU’s growing contribution to Nigeria’s higher education sector and the shared values underpinning the partnership.
Receiving the award on behalf of SAZU and its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Inuwa Galoji expressed appreciation to the management and Senate of IUIU for the recognition.
Professor Galoji said the award would inspire the university community to sustain its pursuit of excellence and contribute further to the institution’s development.
He dedicated the honour to the university’s management, staff and students, acknowledging their collective efforts towards SAZU’s growth.
The presentation was greeted with a standing ovation from participants, bringing the public lecture to a celebratory close and underscoring the growing relationship between the two institutions.
