Amid a reported mass defection of thousands of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, political leaders have urged youths to prioritise skills acquisition, education and entrepreneurship.
The call was made during a political mobilisation organised under the banner of the Hon. Umar Farouk Adam Support Group, where organisers said between 60,000 and 70,000 supporters had joined the APC.
The defectors cited alleged unfulfilled promises, inadequate empowerment and perceived neglect of young people and communities as reasons for leaving the PDP.
The group also rallied its members behind Senator Shehu Buba Umar, Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism, describing him as a leader capable of promoting grassroots development and improving the welfare of constituents.
Addressing youths during the event, political leaders, Umar Farouk Adam cautioned them against making partisan politics their sole source of livelihood.
He advised young people to acquire vocational skills, continue their education and establish businesses capable of providing sustainable income.
According to the Umar Farouk Adam, political participation should serve as an avenue for civic engagement and representation rather than replacing economic independence.
The leader said the movement's decision to join the APC was driven by their desire for what they described as more effective representation and greater attention to the needs of youths and communities.
The reported defection could further influence political alignments in Bauchi State as parties position themselves for upcoming electoral contests.
