The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Bauchi State has received 147 members who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as political activities gather momentum ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
The defectors formally joined the APM on Saturday at an event organised in honour of the party’s 20 local government coordinators for the gubernatorial and senatorial campaigns of Governor Bala Mohammed and Yakubu Adamu.
Receiving the new members, the Director-General of the campaign and Coordinator of the Kaurasiyya AQIDA Organization 2027, Alhaji Mahiru Maiwada Wundi, expressed satisfaction with their decision to join the APM.
Wundi assured the defectors that the party would work with them towards securing victory for the APM across the 20 local government areas of the state in the forthcoming elections.
He also assured them of equal treatment, describing the APM as one family operating under a common political platform.
According to him, the APM differs from other political parties where, he alleged, party affairs are controlled by an individual.
Earlier, the leader of the defectors from Burra in Ningi Local Government Area said their decision to leave the APC was based on personal conviction and their assessment of what he described as the achievements of the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed.
He said the defectors believed that an APM victory in the next election would ensure continuity in the development of the state rather than what he described as a return to “backwardness” experienced under the previous administration.
The event was attended by several party leaders and political stakeholders, including the Deputy Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jamilu Barade; former Chairman of Alkaleri Local Government Area, Alhaji Bello Arabi; and Hon. Nuhu Zaki, among other party dignitaries.
The gathering also attracted a large turnout of APM supporters from across the 20 local government areas of Bauchi State.
The occasion featured political speeches, solidarity activities and musical performances by singers, adding colour to the event as the party continues its mobilisation ahead of the elections.
