The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) has inaugurated a new refuse dump centre at the entrance of Games Village in Jahun, Bauchi metropolis, as part of measures to improve environmental sanitation and safeguard public health.
The facility is expected to provide residents of Games Village and surrounding communities with a designated location for waste disposal and reduce indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
Speaking at the inauguration today on the sanitation day, the Chairman of BASEPA, Mahmood Bose, said the initiative was part of the state government’s commitment to maintaining a clean environment and preventing diseases associated with poor sanitation.
He said proper waste disposal remained critical to creating a healthy environment, urging residents to cooperate with the government by using designated refuse disposal centres.
The District Head of Jahun, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmad, commended BASEPA and the state government for the initiative, describing the facility as timely and important to the wellbeing of residents.
He pledged to support the proper management of the refuse dump centre and warned residents against violating environmental sanitation regulations.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Environment, as well as the Senior Special Assistants to the Governor on Environment, Yamai Muhammad and Aminu Kobi, also urged residents to comply with environmental laws and support sanitation efforts.
