The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged killing of a 27-year-old man during a clash at a naming ceremony in Dosi Hamlet, Bara Village, Kirfi Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which occurred on June 25, claimed the life of Sani Abacha Alhaji Jabbi, who was allegedly attacked with cutlasses following a misunderstanding between youths from Dosi Hamlet and neighbouring Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet.
According to the Police Command, the clash broke out at about 6:30 p.m. during the naming ceremony after an altercation between youths from the two communities.
The victim sustained severe machete injuries and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Gombe, for treatment. However, he later died while receiving medical attention and was certified dead by a medical doctor.
Police said the incident was reported at the Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters through the Officer in Charge of the Bara Police Outpost, prompting detectives to visit the scene and commence investigations.
Following intelligence-led operations, police operatives arrested three suspects identified as Kano Alhaji Malam, 18, Ali Alhaji Malam, 17, and Shehu Alhaji Malam, 16, all of Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet.
The body of the deceased has since been buried by his family in accordance with Islamic rites.
The Police Command said the case, involving alleged criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace and culpable homicide, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killing and warned against the use of violence to settle disputes during social events.
He called on community and youth leaders to promote dialogue, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, stressing that collective efforts are essential to maintaining peace and security across the state.
