A joint security team comprising operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command's Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), conventional police personnel and Forestry Guards has rescued two kidnap victims during a coordinated operation in Gwamnare Forest, Ningi Local Government Area of the state.
The operation followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, for tactical units to intensify operations in communities recently affected by kidnapping and ensure the safe rescue of victims as well as the arrest of those responsible.
Police said the operation was launched in response to persistent cases of kidnapping in Dogon Ruwa and Rafin Chiyawa villages, located around the Gwamnare Forest axis.
According to the Command, the joint team, led by the commanders of the VCRU and AKU alongside the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ningi Division, and the Commander of the Forestry Guards, advanced into the forest through the Rafin Chiyawa corridor on Wednesday.
The operation resulted in the successful rescue of two kidnapped victims identified as Alhaji Yahaya, 50, of Masallachi Hamlet in Dogon Ruwa Village, and Alhaji Kabiru of Gwamnare Forest.
The victims were rescued unharmed, while no casualties were recorded among the security personnel during the operation.
The Police Command said efforts were continuing to locate and rescue other victims believed to be in captivity within the forest.
Commending the operatives for their courage and professionalism, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu reaffirmed the Command's determination to rid forests and other criminal hideouts across the state of kidnappers and other violent criminals.
He also assured residents of Dogon Ruwa, Rafin Chiyawa and neighbouring communities that security operations would be sustained until lasting peace and safety are restored in the affected areas.
