Women in Yelwan Kumdum Community have received a major boost in leadership development and economic empowerment following a series of interventions by the Attah Sister Helping Hand (ASHH) Foundation under the Renewed Women's Voice and Leadership (RWVL) Project.
The initiative, implemented by ActionAid Nigeria with funding from Global Affairs Canada, is aimed at strengthening women's participation in community development while improving their livelihoods.
Speaking on the intervention, ASHH Foundation's Programme Training Officer, Mr. John Frederick, said the activities were designed to build resilient communities where women can thrive socially and economically.
As part of the project, the Foundation established a Women's Hub and trained 30 women on group dynamics, team building, leadership, communication, accountability, conflict resolution, and collective action.
Frederick explained that the Women's Hub provides a structured platform for women to work together, advocate for their rights, contribute to community development, and actively participate in local governance.
He noted that empowering women with leadership skills is critical to fostering inclusive and sustainable development at the grassroots.
To strengthen the women's economic base, the Foundation also handed over a complete groundnut oil extraction machine to members of the hub.
The traditional ruler of Yelwan Kumdum, Sarkin Yelwan Kumdum, Alhaji Nasiru Hussaini Kundum, described the intervention as timely, saying it would significantly reduce the burden women face in processing groundnuts into oil while enhancing productivity.
Leader of the Women's Hub, Mrs. Saratu Hassan, said the equipment would enable members to increase production, save time, and earn higher incomes.
Other beneficiaries expressed appreciation to Global Affairs Canada, ActionAid Nigeria, and the ASHH Foundation for investing in the future of women in their community, describing the intervention as one that will improve household livelihoods and promote sustainable economic independence.
