UNICEF Nigeria has urged caregivers across Bauchi State to maximize the ongoing integrated Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) week by bringing children to access free healthcare services.
Speaking on Monday at the flag-off ceremony, Dr. Nuzhat Rafique, Chief of the UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, emphasized that the weeklong medical intervention is designed to deliver critical, cost-free care to newborns, children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and mothers across more than 600 primary healthcare facilities in the state.
To ensure the campaign's success, UNICEF and its partners pooled N460 million to procure and distribute essential medical supplies.
Dr. Rafique disclosed that an extensive stock of commodities is ready for eligible clients, including 311,500 blue doses and 1.2 million red doses of Vitamin A, alongside Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines and Multiple Micronutrients Supplements (MMS).
The integrated structure of the campaign allows families to efficiently access multiple healthcare services during a single facility visit.
Dr. Rafique expressed gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, alongside key partners like the WHO, Nutrition International, FHI, and MITOSATH, for their dedication to improving health outcomes for women and children.
She also commended Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, and the State Primary Health Care Development Board (BASPHCDB) for fostering the enabling environment necessary to launch the vital health initiative.
