The Lifeline Initiative for Widows Empowerment and Economic Development (LIWEED) has intensified awareness on child abuse, child labour and gender-based violence among women and adolescents in Tsakanin Bayara community, Bauchi State.
The initiative, according to the organisation, is aimed at equipping community members with the knowledge required to identify, prevent and report different forms of violence and abuse.
The sensitisation, held on September 9, 2026, was led by the LIWEED State Team Lead, Hajia Binta Adamu, who took participants through the various forms of gender-based violence, its causes, likely perpetrators and consequences.
Adamu also explained the importance of reporting GBV cases and outlined appropriate channels through which complaints could be made.
She urged participants to support survivors and avoid actions that could expose victims to further trauma or stigma.
The LIWEED official also drew attention to the provisions of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, particularly the legal consequences for perpetrators of violence.
In her welcome address, the Executive Director of LIWEED, Amb. Dr. Grace Maikudi, appreciated participants for attending the programme and encouraged them to listen attentively and apply the lessons learned.
Participants thereafter asked questions on GBV, child abuse and related issues, expressing their readiness to educate other women and adolescents within their communities.
