Police Arrest Three FCMB Security Personnel Over Alleged False Claims, Attempted Extortion in Bauchi

By Muhammad Auwal

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three security personnel attached to the First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Bauchi, over alleged criminal conspiracy, giving false information, obstruction of police officers in the discharge of their duties, defamation and attempted obtaining of money by false pretence.

The suspects were identified as Usman Usman, 30; Aliyu Musa, 30; and Haruna Adamu, 35, all security personnel attached to FCMB in Bauchi.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident began on August 9, 2026, when Usman and Musa reported at the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa, alleging that a police patrol team had impounded their Bajaj motorcycle during enforcement of the state government’s restriction on the night operation of commercial motorcycles and tricycles.

The two security personnel allegedly claimed that the police officers demanded money for the release of the motorcycle. They further alleged that after returning with the money, they could not locate the motorcycle and consequently accused the police of stealing it.

The complainants subsequently demanded ₦1.2 million from the police as compensation.

However, police investigations reportedly uncovered a different account of the incident. According to the Command, the investigation established that the three suspects allegedly conspired to remove the motorcycle from the police impoundment area using a spare key while officers were occupied with other offenders.

The motorcycle was allegedly taken to the residence of Haruna Adamu in Rafin Tambari, where it was concealed.

The suspects were subsequently arrested, while the motorcycle was recovered from the location.

The Police Command said the suspects thereafter allegedly made false claims against its personnel with the intention of obstructing them in the performance of their official duties and damaging the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.

The suspects remain in police custody as investigation continues, with the Command stating that they will be charged to court upon completion of the preliminary investigation.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned what he described as an attempt to mislead the public and undermine the credibility of police officers.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, integrity and accountability, while urging members of the public, particularly personnel working in private security and other security-related organisations, to avoid actions capable of undermining public confidence in security institutions.
