By Auwal Hassan

The Faculty of Law, Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi State, has received commendation for its efforts to equip students with practical legal skills following an impressive performance by its students at a Client Interview and Grand Moot Court Competition.

The competition, organised by the Pioneers Chambers in honour of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fatimah Tahir, was held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the Campus Auditorium.

The exercise was designed to expose law students to practical courtroom procedures and strengthen their advocacy, client-interview and legal reasoning skills.

Speaking as a special guest at the event, the Khadi of the Bauchi State Shari’ah Court of Appeal, Honourable Muhuyiddeen Muhammad, commended the students for their discipline, confidence and realistic presentation of courtroom proceedings.

He described the exercise as a promising development for the Faculty and the University, noting that the students’ performance closely reflected real-life court proceedings.

The Khadi also congratulated the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fatimah Tahir, on the developmental strides recorded by the University, describing her leadership as a positive contribution to the growth of the institution.

The moot court session was presided over by Justice Abdussalam Idris Waziri of the Bauchi State High Court, with two student counsel teams presenting arguments in a simulated case involving alleged dishonesty and breach of a business agreement.

At the end of the proceedings, Justice Waziri delivered judgment in favour of the claimant’s counsel.

The Staff Adviser of Pioneers Chambers, Barrister Rilwan A. Jibril, said the competition was organised to give students first-hand experience of courtroom procedures and other aspects of legal practice.

He appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for her support to the Faculty and encouraged other student organisations to introduce similar practical programmes that would complement classroom learning.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor S.M.G. Kanam, said the initiative was in line with the University’s commitment to academic excellence and the production of well-trained graduates.

He noted that practical initiatives such as the Moot Court, Law Clinic and Law Chambers were helping to strengthen students’ legal knowledge while also creating opportunities for the Faculty to contribute to the wider community.

In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fatimah Tahir, commended the participating students for their courage and discipline. She urged them to uphold righteousness, integrity and the fear of God as they prepare for careers in the legal profession.

To further encourage academic excellence and healthy competition, the Vice-Chancellor presented a monetary reward to the winning counsel team and suggested that future editions could involve students from other faculties to promote wider academic engagement across the University.

The event also featured the presentation of certificates and awards, group photographs and other activities.
