Bauchi Seeks Inclusion in FG’s Ranching Programme, Cites Livestock Potential

From Nasir Shuaibu, BAUCHI

The Pastoral Resolve (PARE), Bauchi State Chapter, has urged the Federal Government to include the state among those selected to benefit from its proposed National Ranching Programme.

The call was made by the organisation’s Bauchi State Programme Coordinator, Alhaji Shu’aibu Aliyu Kobi, who said the state had the required resources and infrastructure to support the initiative.

Kobi said Bauchi’s vast land, sizeable pastoral population and thriving cattle markets placed it in a strong position to benefit from a modern ranching system.

He maintained that all necessary requirements for the smooth take-off of the programme had been met, urging the Federal Government to consider Bauchi among the first states to participate.

According to him, ranching would increase livestock productivity and provide better opportunities for pastoral communities to improve their livelihoods.

He also said the programme could generate employment for youths, strengthen economic activities and reduce tensions arising from competition over grazing and farmland.

Kobi noted that PARE had continued to support development interventions in education, agriculture, livelihood, nutrition and skills acquisition, particularly among women and youths.

He urged the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to expedite Bauchi’s inclusion in the proposed national ranching scheme.
