From Nasir Shuaibu, BAUCHI
Voters and political supporters in Bauchi State have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that their votes count in the 2027 governorship election.
The demand followed the display by INEC of the names and biodata of 19 governorship candidates and their running mates contesting the election under various political parties.
Some supporters who visited the commission’s office in Bauchi over the weekend were seen inspecting the list to confirm the inclusion of their preferred candidates.
Speaking on the development, one of the supporters, Auwal Captain, said the publication of the candidates’ names had boosted his confidence in INEC’s preparations.
He, however, urged the electoral body to ensure that the process remained transparent until the announcement of the final results.
Malam Adamu Antares also said voters were ready to exercise their civic responsibility, but stressed that their choices must be respected.
He appealed to INEC to ensure that the candidate who receives the mandate of the electorate is declared winner, arguing that a credible process would contribute to peace and stability.
Meanwhile, political analysts have identified several factors that could determine the credibility of the 2027 election.
They urged INEC to ensure that BVAS machines are functional, electoral materials are distributed on time and ad-hoc staff are properly trained before deployment.
The analysts also called for improved communication between INEC, political parties and voters to prevent misinformation and confusion during the election period.
Candidates from APM, PRP, APC, ADC, PDP, NDC and Idris Aliyu Muhammad Labour Party, among other political parties, are among those listed for the Bauchi governorship contest.
