The Bauchi State Police Command has recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested three suspects in connection with an alleged vehicle theft syndicate operating between Bauchi and Gombe states.
The recovered vehicle, a green Opel Vectra with registration number AH 232 AKK, belongs to a Bauchi resident, Mr. Mu'azu, whose vehicle was reportedly stolen on June 29.
According to the Police Command, a distress call from a concerned member of the public alerted security operatives to the theft, prompting officers attached to the 'E' Division to launch an immediate operation.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) mobilised his team and intercepted the stolen vehicle around the Dorawan Dillalai area of Bauchi, leading to the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of the vehicle.
Further investigations led detectives from the Area Command to Gombe State, where two additional suspects identified as Abubakar Musa, 46, and Usman Abubakar, 30, were arrested while allegedly negotiating to purchase the stolen vehicle.
The Police Command said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime and allegedly admitted to participating in similar offences in the past.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspects' activities, adding that they would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the swift response of the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, also praised the member of the public whose timely information aided the successful recovery of the vehicle.
He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to tackling vehicle theft and other property-related crimes across the state, while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information.
