Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a 28-year-old suspect and recovered a stolen motorcycle during a routine patrol in Bauchi metropolis.
The suspect, identified as Hafiz Ahmad of Karofin Madaki, was intercepted by officers attached to the 'E' Division, Yelwa, while riding an unregistered black Jiacheng ladies' motorcycle along the Yelwan Kagadama area of the metropolis.
According to the Police Command, the motorcycle, valued at about ₦450,000, was recovered after the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation that he stole it from Unguwar Kusu in the Yelwa area of Bauchi.
The police said further investigation led detectives to the rightful owner, a 23-year-old resident of the Federal Low-Cost Housing Estate, who successfully identified the motorcycle and presented relevant documents establishing ownership.
The recovered motorcycle was subsequently released to its owner, while the suspect remains in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations.
The Police Command disclosed that the suspect would be charged to court upon the completion of preliminary investigation.
Commending the officers for their vigilance and swift response, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, urged residents to ensure proper documentation of their vehicles and motorcycles to facilitate identification and recovery in the event of theft.
He also appealed to members of the public to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
