The Bauchi State Police Command has recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested three suspected members of a car theft syndicate during coordinated operations in Bauchi and Gombe states.
The recovered vehicle, a green Opel Vectra with registration number AH 232 AKK, was reportedly stolen from its owner, Mr. Mu'azu, a resident of Katsinawa Village along Jos Road, Bauchi.
According to the Police Command, the incident was reported on June 29 following a distress call from a concerned member of the public who alerted security operatives to the theft.
Acting on the information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of 'E' Division immediately deployed a team of detectives, who intercepted the stolen vehicle at Dorawan Dillalai on the outskirts of Bauchi metropolis.
One suspect was arrested during the operation, while the vehicle was successfully recovered.
The police said further investigations led operatives from the Area Command to Gombe State, where two additional suspects, identified as Abubakar Musa, 46, and Usman Abubakar, 30, were arrested while allegedly negotiating to purchase the stolen vehicle.
According to the Command, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime and allegedly admitted to participating in similar criminal activities in the past.
The Police said investigations are continuing to determine the full scope of the suspects' activities and to identify other possible members of the network.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the officers for their swift response, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, also praised the public-spirited individual whose timely information led to the recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of the suspects.
He reaffirmed the Command's resolve to intensify efforts against vehicle theft and other property-related crimes, urging residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely information on suspicious activities.
