Police Arrest Seven Over Attack on SAZU Students in Gadau Hostel

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested seven suspects over an armed robbery attack on students of Sa'adu Zungur University (SAZU), Gadau Campus, at an off-campus hostel in Gadau, Itas/Gadau Local Government Area.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, left two students with serious machete injuries, while two Android phones were stolen.

According to the Police Command, the suspects allegedly stormed Rahama House, an off-campus hostel, at about 3:30 a.m., where they reportedly overpowered the occupants, attacked the students and dispossessed them of their valuables.

Police operatives attached to the Gadau Division responded promptly to a distress call and rushed to the scene. The injured students were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, Azare, where they are receiving medical treatment.

The Command said a coordinated follow-up operation led to the arrest of all seven suspects, while the stolen phones were recovered as exhibits.

The suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the attack and directed that all those involved be brought to justice.

He reassured students and residents of the Command's commitment to safeguarding lives and property, noting that the Police would continue to strengthen security around educational institutions in line with the Safe Schools Initiative.

The police commissioner also urged students, particularly those residing off-campus, to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.

The Command reaffirmed its resolve to sustain intelligence-led policing and proactive measures aimed at ensuring the safety of students and other residents across the state.
