The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four persons in connection with the death of a farmer following a violent dispute over farmland in Kumba Village, Sama District of Burra Emirate, Ningi Local Government Area.
Police said the incident occurred at about 2:40 p.m. on July 26, 2026, after a disagreement between two farmers escalated into a fatal confrontation.
The deceased, Yakubu Mai-Duna, 47, was alleged to have dumped weeds from his farmland into the adjoining farm of Kabiru Yusuf, 40, an act that reportedly triggered an argument between the two neighbours.
According to the Police, the disagreement later degenerated into a physical fight involving members of both families.
During the altercation, Kabiru Yusuf and his three sons — Abdulrazak Yusuf, 25; Safiyanu Kabiru, 20; and Salisu Kabiru, 15 — allegedly attacked Mai-Duna and another villager, Usman Gagare, 48, who had intervened in an attempt to restore peace.
Police operatives from the Burra Division responded promptly after receiving a distress report and arrested the four suspects.
The victims were rushed to the Primary Health Care Centre in Yada-Gungume for treatment. However, Mai-Duna later died while receiving medical attention, while Gagare was treated and discharged.
The Police said the case is being investigated and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, urged residents to embrace dialogue and lawful means of resolving disputes instead of resorting to violence.
He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and warned that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
