The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to six academic programmes at Sa'adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi, following its October/November 2025 accreditation exercise.
The accreditation was conveyed in a letter dated April 7, 2026, and signed by the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, as part of the Commission's statutory responsibility to assess academic programmes in Nigerian universities and ensure compliance with the National Minimum Academic Standards.
The accredited programmes are Environmental Health under the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences; Linguistics under the Faculty of Arts; and Education Biology, Education Chemistry, Education Mathematics and Education Physics under the Faculty of Education.
Under the NUC accreditation framework, full accreditation indicates that a programme has met the Commission's prescribed standards in curriculum content, staffing, physical facilities, library resources, funding and academic administration. The accreditation is valid for five years.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Fatimah Tahir, described the outcome as a significant milestone and a clear affirmation of the institution's commitment to academic excellence and quality assurance.
She said the accreditation reflects the University's sustained efforts to provide high-quality academic programmes capable of meeting national and global standards while producing graduates equipped with the knowledge and skills required for national development.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, quality assurance remains at the core of the University's vision of delivering education that is relevant, competitive and responsive to the needs of society.
Professor Tahir expressed appreciation to the National Universities Commission for its objective assessment and professional engagement throughout the accreditation exercise.
She also thanked the Executive Governor of Bauchi State and Visitor to the University, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, for his unwavering support, which she said has continued to enhance the University's academic growth and infrastructural development.
The Vice-Chancellor further commended the Governing Council, Senate, Management, academic and non-academic staff, as well as students of the institution for their commitment and collective efforts that contributed to the successful accreditation of the programmes.
She reaffirmed the University's resolve to sustain the standards that earned the accreditation while continuing to strengthen teaching, research, innovation and community service across all its academic programmes.
The latest accreditation further reinforces Sa'adu Zungur University's growing reputation as a centre of academic excellence committed to delivering quality university education and producing graduates capable of making meaningful contributions to national development.
