The Bauchi Women Coalition for Women's Inclusion, Equity and Good Governance has called on the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) to nominate a woman as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 general election in Bauchi State.
The coalition made the appeal in a statement issued in Bauchi and signed by its Director of Media and Communication, Hajiya Hajara Musa.
According to the group, greater inclusion of women in political leadership would strengthen governance, promote social development and ensure that the interests of women, youths, children and other vulnerable groups are adequately represented in government.
The coalition specifically urged the party's governorship candidate, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, to consider selecting a competent and experienced woman as his running mate, arguing that women and young people constitute a significant proportion of the electorate.
It said the emergence of a female deputy governorship candidate would not only demonstrate the party's commitment to inclusion and equity but also enhance its electoral prospects by attracting broader public support.
"The Coalition believes that women's inclusion in leadership strengthens governance, promotes social development and ensures that the voices of women, children, youths and vulnerable groups are adequately represented in government," the statement read.
It added that Bauchi State has many qualified women with the experience and leadership capacity required to serve effectively in high public office.
The coalition reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women's political participation and pledged to continue advocating increased representation of women in elective and appointive positions.
It also stressed its commitment to peaceful democratic engagement and called on political parties and other stakeholders to create more opportunities for women to participate meaningfully in decision-making processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
