2,834 Bauchi Workers Undergo Screening for Promotion Exam

The Bauchi State Government has commenced a capacity building workshop and promotion examination for 2,834 civil servants as part of efforts to strengthen the state workforce and enhance productivity.

The three-day training, held at the Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall, was declared open by the Head of Service, Mohammed Sani Umar, Esq., who said the exercise was aimed at equipping workers with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to excel in their promotion examinations and, more importantly, in the discharge of their daily responsibilities.

Umar explained that investing in the civil service was synonymous with investing in the future of the state.

“I am delighted to report that our efforts in conducting similar workshops in the past have yielded remarkable results. Last year’s promotion examinations saw significant improvement in performance, with the pass rate rising from 75 percent to 83 percent. This remarkable achievement is proof of the effectiveness of our capacity building initiatives and the dedication of our civil servants. I am confident that this year’s workshop will build on that success,” he stated.

He further expressed optimism that the training would usher in a new era of excellence, noting that it demonstrated government’s commitment to meritocracy, professionalism and service delivery.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, General Administration Department, Office of the Head of Service, Dawud Mahmood Yakubu, Esq., urged the participants to take the workshop seriously, describing it as an opportunity for personal growth and career advancement.

Both officials commended Governor Bala Mohammed for approving and releasing funds for the exercise, while also acknowledging the support of Dugge Management Services Ltd., the facilitators of the programme.

On his part, the Chairman, Civil Service Commission, Dr. Ibrahim Alhaji Muhammad, stressed that the efficiency of the civil service remained central to governance and delivery of democratic dividends.

“Look around you, the world is changing. Upgrade yourself and be more productive. For some of you who will become directors or permanent secretaries, it is this type of training and self-development that will prepare you. Civil service is evolving and the government is progressing; you need training,” he said.

Some of the participants interviewed expressed gratitude to the state government for the opportunity, pledging to reciprocate with hard work and dedication to the development of Bauchi State and Nigeria at large.
