From Nasir Shuaibu, BAUCHI
Leaders of the Obidient Movement in Bauchi State have expressed interest in partnering with the campaign organisation of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) House of Representatives candidate, Hon. Sodangi Adam Chindo, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development followed a meeting between a nine-member delegation of the movement and Chindo at his campaign office in Bauchi on September 30, 2026.
The delegation, led by Micheal Sarkin Yaki, said the visit was aimed at establishing a working relationship with the campaign organisation and identifying areas where the movement could contribute to the campaign.
Yaki said the movement was prepared to deploy its human resources, communication networks, volunteers and grassroots structures to support the campaign.
He said the Obidient Movement had structures across Bauchi State, including at the local government and ward levels, adding that it had a significant following in the state.
According to him, the movement's supporters in Bauchi State were estimated at more than 50,000.
Yaki stressed that the group's interest was not primarily about securing positions in the campaign organisation but about contributing its existing networks, volunteers and relationships with communities to strengthen mobilisation and communication.
Responding, Chindo thanked the delegation for the visit and expressed his readiness to engage groups willing to contribute to his campaign.
He said his campaign would be anchored on trust, transparency and inclusiveness, assuring interested individuals and organisations of opportunities to participate in appropriate capacities.
Chindo also emphasised the importance of constructive engagement with stakeholders and different groups ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meeting further discussed coordination among various campaign structures, particularly in communication, mobilisation and engagement with communities at the local government and ward levels.
Both sides agreed on the need for continued dialogue to define areas of cooperation and establish a coordinated framework for future activities.
