The future of digital governance and business regulation in Nigeria has come under focus in Bauchi as more than 400 stakeholders converge on the state for the 2026 Annual Retreat of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
The three-day event, which began at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre, is examining the role of Artificial Intelligence in improving corporate registration and regulatory services across the country.
With the theme, “Artificial Intelligence at Scale: Advancing an Intelligent Corporate Registry for Efficient and Trusted Service,” the retreat brings together government regulators, technology experts, business stakeholders and other professionals.
The CAC Registrar-General and Chief Executive Officer, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, said the retreat was critical to the Commission’s ongoing digital reform programme.
He commended the Bauchi State Government for hosting the event and supporting discussions aimed at repositioning corporate regulation in Nigeria.
The Chairman of the CAC Governing Board, Senator Ibrahim Ida, Wazirin Katsina, said the Commission must harness AI to strengthen efficiency, transparency and public confidence in its services.
He urged stakeholders to move beyond discussions and develop practical reforms that would contribute to national development.
Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who declared the retreat open, said the event provided an opportunity to develop innovative ideas capable of repositioning the CAC for greater national impact.
The governor reaffirmed Bauchi’s readiness to work with the CAC and other institutions to promote technological advancement and sustainable economic development.
He further said the state was open to digital investment, encouraging technology-based enterprises and investors to explore opportunities in Bauchi.
The Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, represented by the Wazirin Bauchi, Alhaji Mohammed Uba Kari, and representatives of Google Strategic Partners also highlighted the role of AI in modernising institutions and improving service delivery.
The retreat is expected to conclude on Saturday, September 5, with participants expected to produce recommendations that could shape the CAC’s AI adoption strategy and future corporate registry reforms.
The hosting of the national engagement has also placed Bauchi in the spotlight as the state seeks to attract investment, innovation and knowledge-driven economic activities.
