Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a suspected cattle rustler and recovered six stolen cows during a coordinated operation in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Musa Abdullahi, was arrested following a complaint that six cows were stolen from a resident of Nasarawa Village in Lim Ward during the early hours of July 29, 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said the report was lodged at the Bununu Divisional Police Headquarters, prompting the immediate deployment of a joint team of police officers and members of the Danga Security outfit.
According to him, the operatives tracked the footprints of the stolen cattle towards the Dull axis, where intelligence-led surveillance led to the arrest of the suspect.
He disclosed that during interrogation, Musa Abdullahi allegedly confessed to stealing the livestock, while all six cows were recovered.
Habib said the case is under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for further investigation and prosecution.
Commending the operatives for their swift response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, praised the collaboration between the police and local security volunteers, describing it as vital in tackling rural crimes.
He also appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to strengthen efforts aimed at preventing and combating crime across the state.
