A northern advocacy group, the Arewa Dignity Advancement Initiative (ArDA), has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint former Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, as the next minister representing Bauchi State, following the resignation of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.
In an open letter signed by its Chairperson, Hajiya Baheejah Mahmood Abdullahi, the group argued that the ministerial appointment should remain in Bauchi North Senatorial District, where the vacant position originated, in the interest of equity, fairness and balanced representation.
Tuggar recently vacated the ministerial position after resigning to pursue his governorship ambition in Bauchi State.
ArDA, which described itself as a non-partisan organisation committed to promoting justice, inclusive governance and national unity, said Bauchi North has suffered inadequate federal representation despite its contributions to the electoral success of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the group, the zone has been largely excluded from key federal appointments under the current administration, while several strategic positions have gone to individuals from Bauchi Central and Bauchi South Senatorial Districts.
The organisation noted that although some indigenes of Bauchi State currently occupy federal positions, appointments such as membership of governing councils and boards do not offer the same level of executive influence and developmental impact as ministerial positions.
It maintained that replacing Tuggar with another nominee from Bauchi North would uphold the principles of the federal character, fairness and political balance.
The group specifically endorsed former Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, describing him as an experienced administrator, loyal party stalwart and respected statesman with the capacity to serve effectively.
According to ArDA, Adamu possesses the leadership experience, political maturity and grassroots acceptance required for the position, adding that his appointment would reassure the people of Bauchi North that they remain an integral part of the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda.
The organisation further argued that appointing Adamu would strengthen public confidence in the Tinubu administration's commitment to inclusive governance and equitable distribution of political appointments.
While acknowledging the President's efforts towards national development, ArDA urged him to review the distribution of federal appointments relating to Bauchi State and address what it described as the under-representation of Bauchi North in strategic positions.
The group appealed to President Tinubu to give the request favourable consideration, stressing that the people of Bauchi North seek only fair representation and equal participation in national governance.
