The Women Child Youth Health and Education Initiative (WCY) has called for stronger collaboration among government institutions, the judiciary, security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations and development partners to strengthen the implementation of the Bauchi State Child Rights Law and improve girls' education.
Speaking at a Multi-Stakeholder Town Hall Meeting in Bauchi, the Executive Director of WCY, Rashida Mukkaddas, said the meeting, organised under the Adolescent Mothers Education Access (AMEA) Project with support from the Malala Fund through the Education Champion Network (ECN), was aimed at promoting collective action to protect children's rights.
She said the project seeks to ensure that every adolescent girl, including married and pregnant girls and young mothers, has access to quality education and is supported to enrol, return to school, remain in school and complete her education.
Mukkaddas observed that despite the existence of the Bauchi State Child Rights Law, the Gender in Education Policy and the School Re-entry Guidelines for Married and Pregnant Adolescent Girls, many children continue to suffer rights violations due to weak implementation, poor coordination, limited awareness and harmful social norms.
Also speaking, WCY Senior Programme Officer, Kamal Ali Bello, said the town hall was designed to improve stakeholders' understanding of the Child Rights Law, identify implementation gaps and develop practical recommendations for stronger enforcement.
According to Bello, the meeting will also strengthen partnerships and referral mechanisms while promoting school re-entry, retention and completion for adolescent girls across Bauchi State.
