BAUCHI — The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a youth-focused campaign aimed at discouraging political and digital thuggery and promoting responsible citizenship, peace and sustainable security in the state.
The campaign, themed “My Future is Greater than Political and Digital Thuggery,” was launched as part of activities marking the 26th edition of International Youth Day 2026 at the Police Officers’ Mess, Jos Road, Bauchi.
The one-day programme was organised under the National Youth Leadership and Security Initiative in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including traditional institutions, civil society organisations, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), academia, youth organisations, security stakeholders and the media.
Declaring the campaign open, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+), reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to community policing, youth inclusion and crime prevention.
He urged young people to reject political and digital thuggery and embrace peace, responsible citizenship and activities that contribute to national development.
A keynote presentation on the theme, “My Future is Greater than Political and Digital Thuggery,” was delivered by ACP Muhammad Musa Ahmadu, psc (+), while an enlightenment drama further highlighted the dangers associated with political and digital thuggery.
The event also featured goodwill messages from representatives of the Bauchi State Chief Security Adviser and the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Bauchi State, as well as remarks by the National Vice Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Umar Lauya.
The official campaign launch was subsequently handed over to the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) for continued youth engagement.
A major component of the programme was a moderated Police-Youth Dialogue, which provided an interactive platform for young people to engage directly with police leadership and other experts on issues affecting peace, security and effective policing.
Presentations during the dialogue covered responsible citizenship and Police-Youth partnership, security and crime prevention, public trust as a catalyst for effective policing, and political and digital thuggery.
The presentations were delivered by Prof. Bala Sulaiman Dalhat of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi; DSP Muhammad A. Manga of the State Criminal Investigation Department; Prof. Musa Adamu Wunti of Sa’adu Zungur University, Bauchi; and the Acting State Legal Officer, DSP Barr. Kawu I. Mu’azu, Esq.
Participants subsequently engaged the speakers in a question-and-answer session, offering recommendations on strengthening Police-Youth relations, preventing crime and promoting responsible participation in society.
The programme concluded with the distribution of copies of “ESTEEMED YOUTH,” a book donated by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, to youth groups in Bauchi State.
The Police Command expressed appreciation to all partners, stakeholders and participants for their contributions towards the success of the initiative, while reaffirming its commitment to strengthening partnerships with young people in the interest of peace and security in Bauchi State.
